TMJ - What is that?

TemporoMandibular Joint

This is an area of special interest for Dr. Albury.  He has been treating TMJ disorders for over twenty years with a very high success rate.  Over 95% of our patients have been helped.

Do you have a TMJ problem?  TMJ is an abbreviation for "temporomandibular joint" which is the jaw joint.  If you have jaw popping, clicking, catching, stiffness, and/or headaches you may have a TMJ disorder.  Those symptoms may also indicate a problem with your bite, or the way your teeth fit together.  Other symptoms of a TMJ disorder mimic sinus conditions, ear infection, neck problems, and other health conditions. Care must be taken with proper diagnosis.

Both surgical and nonsurgical treatments are available.  Dr. Albury will evaluate your symptoms along with xrays.  You will spend as much time discussing your jaw history as is necessary for him to fully understand what you need before he plans your treatment method.  Typically, someone who suffers with a TMJ condition has seen many doctors already and has been treated by various specialists already.  Even among oral & maxillofacial surgeons there is a wide variety of procedures that give different degrees of relief.  The procedure that Dr. Albury uses most frequently has been performed in England, the US and other countries for many years and has a great success rate.  For that reason, he is confident that he will be able to help you with your problem whether you have been affected for a short time or for many years.
